Ask the experts… can you help me if the absent parent puts everything else in the new wife’s name?

QUESTION:

hi,

I’m a single parent and I’ve been struggling to get child support for a long time. I’m wondering if my ex-husband has put everything in his new wife’s name, how can you still collect child support from him?

Thanks for any help you can give me regarding my child support collection issue.

Pam

OUR ANSWER:

Hi Pam,

Thank you for the email. Your situation is like many we work, the NCP (non custodial parent) makes it his goal to not pay support. While your situation is difficult, it is worth trying, in a situation like yours, if the NCP is not working a “payroll type” job, we would set the goal of try to establish a payment plan for the support. Ultimately, the county has the responsibility to prosecute for contempt and we do suggest you do attempt that.

If you would like to see what we can accomplish for you, please call or go ahead and get the application done and we will do our best to get the support you are owed.

Please give me a call if you would like to chat!

Thanks!
