Ask the experts… how do I collect child support without any court documents?

Question from a custodial parent:

I am wanting to file back child support on my father for my mother however I don’t have any of the court information. Will I still be able to file.

Thank you

Shannon

Our Answer:

Hi Shannon,

Thank you for the email and questions. It is actually your Mom that will need to work with us, not you as the child on the order. We can certainly have you as a point of contact for the case but Mom would be the primary with us.

In order to open the file, there is some basic info that we will need to have:

• Copy of all judge signed orders for the case. If you don’t have them, the Clerk of the Court in the county the order is from can assist with getting certified copies
• Copy of the pay history so we can tie to what is owed in unpaid support
• Information on the NCP (DOB, SS#, possible income and assets)

Once you have this info together, please help Mom get the online application completed (it can also be done by mail) and return the agreement for service and required docs to us.

We look for income and assets to collect from so please provide as much info as possible to get the process going. WE would not prosecute the case for non-payment of support.

Hope this info is helpful! Please let me know if you have any other questions!
